  106. Release Note for the SuperStack II Hub 10 and FMS Management Agents

  108. This release note accompanies versions of the 3Com SuperStack II Hub 10 and FMS 
  109. Management Agents and supercedes all previous release notes.
  110. You may have received the note on a disk with your product or by accessing our 
  111. bulletin board service. These versions of the Management Agent are:-

  146. The opportunity is taken to improve SNMP response under heavy broadcast loading
  147. and fix a bug which caused some problems with configuration retention during 
  148. reset/power cycle.

  170. Below are listed known problems which still exist on the respective management
  171. modules.
  172. 1.    On the VT100 Port Setup screen, the `Link State' and `Lost Links' 
  173.     fields are displayed for Thin Coax ports, but they do not apply to this
  174.     type of port.
  175.  
  176. 2.    On the VT100 Repeater Statistics, Unit Statistics and Port Statistics 
  177.     screens, Short Events are counted as Runts.
  178.  
  179. 3.    On the VT100 Unit Setup screen, a unit configured as Disable on Boot 
  180.     will indicate `All Ports Disabled' in the `Unit Boot State' field, even
  181.     if any ports have been selectively enabled via the VT100 Port Setup 
  182.     screen.  This also applies if the unit is not Disable on Boot and some 
  183.     ports have been selectively disabled.
  184.  
  185. 4.    On the VT100 Remote Poll screen, if there are multiple instances of the
  186.     screen, they will share the same Target Address.  This may happen if 
  187.     there are multiple Telnet sessions, or a serial port session and a 
  188.     Telnet session. The last address entered is the address that will be 
  189.     polled.
  190.  
  191. 5.    On the VT100 Remote Poll screen, if an IP address is entered but the 
  192.     stack has no IP configuration then no error message is displayed. A 
  193.     similar problem will occur with IPX.
  194.  
  195. 6.    On the VT100 Edit User screen, if the values entered in the `New 
  196.     Password' and `Confirm Password' fields are different, an error message
  197.     is displayed when `OK' is selected. If [Return] is then pressed, a null
  198.     password is set for the user. The user can log in, but if an attempt is
  199.     made to change the password again, the message `Old Password Field Not 
  200.     Completed' will be displayed.
  201.  
  202. 7.    If the stack has a configuration that results in a large number of traps
  203.     being generated within a short space of time, it is possible that some 
  204.     traps will not be sent.
  205.  
  206. 8.    If the Software Upgrade download activity fails, the trap reporting the 
  207.     error may indicate an incorrect status. Successful download will always
  208.     result in a correct trap status.
  209.  
  210. 9.    Backspace does not work correctly on some "VT100" terminal emulators. 
  211.     If this happens, use [Ctrl-H]. 
  212.  
  213. 10.    Setting End Station Filter to forwardNone has no effect as addresses 
  214.     will still be learnt.
  215.  
  216. 11.    The counters, alarms and traps indicating the rate of errors, expressed
  217.     as "errors per 10,000 packets" can be misleading. Note that this is an
  218.     indication of rate, not absolute values. For example, a value of 180 
  219.     errors per 10,000 packets does not mean that 180 errors have occurred. 
  220.     It means that over the averaging period of the alarm, a rate of at least
  221.     one error in (10,000 divided by 180 =) 56 packets has been exceeded.

  231. Details on how to upgrade the Management Agent are given in the manual
  232. that accompanies the Management Module. Please read the instructions carefully.

  234. A TFTP Server is required in order to perform the upgrade. 3Com provides 
  235. a DOS-based TFTP Server free of charge to its customers. See the file 
  236. 3COMTFTP.TXT for a full description of the 3Com DOS-based TFTP Server.
